Keeping terminal work in tmux sessions

A small session, window, and pane reference for an older Linux terminal workflow.

A tmux session can keep terminal work alive while its client is detached. Sessions contain windows, and windows can contain panes.

The original Linux installation command was:

sudo apt install tmux

Its short reference was:

# Tmux: session -> windows -> panes

# New session
tmux

# Inside current session
## Create another session
Ctrl + B + :new<CR>
## View and select session on list
Ctrl + B + s

# Kill session (can not attach anymore)
Ctrl + D

# Detach session (can be attach again)
Ctrl + B + D

# Attach session
tmux a
tmux a -t sessionId

# View list of session
tmux ls

Detaching leaves the work running for a later attachment. Exiting a shell is different: Ctrl-D can close that shell, and ending the last pane can end its session. The old shortcut list compresses those distinctions.

These commands and keys record the earlier workflow. No session was created or terminated while importing the note.
