The original Solana notebook combined Node 14, Solana 1.9, Rust, and Anchor 0.19 on an Apple Silicon Mac. The local validator failed with an illegal instruction:
$ solana-test-validator
Ledger location: test-ledger
Log: test-ledger/validator.log
[1] 35955 illegal hardware instruction solana-test-validator
Architecture is part of the environment
The workaround explored native and Rosetta terminals, Rust targets, OpenSSL, and a source build of Solana. Those details belong to the specific toolchain and machine. Switching terminal translation mode does not, by itself, establish that every binary and linked library uses a compatible architecture.
The destructive uninstall commands, obsolete remote installer, and mixed-architecture package sequence are omitted rather than presented as a current setup procedure. The source-build fragment remains as a historical record, with workstation paths replaced:
cd /path/to/tools/
git clone https://github.com/solana-labs/solana.git
cd solana
cargo build
./scripts/cargo-install-all.sh .
# Update .bash_profile
export PATH="/path/to/solana"/bin:"$PATH"
source ~/.bash_profile
Keep versions with the observation
cargo install --git https://github.com/project-serum/anchor --tag v0.19.0 anchor-cli --locked
anchor --version
solana --version
solana-test-validator
The source then tried the earlier Solana hello-world repository. A displayed CLI version, successful local-validator start, successful program build, and successful on-chain execution are different checks. The archived screenshots do not establish compatibility for a current installation.
No Rust, Solana, Anchor, shell profile, package, or validator was installed or changed for this revision.
